Watch: West Fargo 10-year-old belts one out onstage with KISS frontman Gene Simmons

A West Fargo 10-year-old drove KISS frontman Gene Simmons so wild, Simmons drove him crazy.

It all happened as Simmons was playing a solo concert at Shooting Star Casino near Mahnomen, Minn., on Friday, Aug. 11. As the evening was winding down, the God of Thunder prepared to finish the evening with one of KISS’ biggest hits, “Rock and Roll All Night.”

Steele Bryant, 10, was near the back of the venue with his dad, Anthony, a seventh-grade English teacher at Liberty Middle School. Steele had been a loyal member of the KISS Army for about two years, ever since his interest was piqued by some of his dad’s KISS memorabilia.

Simmons had already brought some people on stage to shout along to a song, Anthony says, and at one point Steele looked up at him and said “do you think we’ll get to meet him?” Anthony had put Steele on his shoulders to get a better view when Simmons announced from stage that the first 20 people on stage would get to sing along with the signature KISS tune.

“I knew it was now or never so, with Steele on my shoulders, I took off running,” Anthony says. They exited the venue, ran down a hallway, and came in through a different door, wiggling through fans to reach the front. A security guard let them through and then a fan yelled “hey Gene, get the kid!”

And suddenly, Steele was on stage, with his dad recording video of the performance that he later uploaded to YouTube. Simmons sings the song’s verses, then adjusts the microphone so that Steele could belt out the rollicking chorus: “I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day.” At one point, Simmons puts his sunglasses on Steele. At the end, Simmons gives him a hug.

It was a moment of excitement for both Steele and his father, who can be heard in the video shouting “that’s my son up on stage!”

“I’ve been a KISS fan (I’m a music fanatic) since the 8th grade, and love sharing my love of music with my son,” Anthony says.
